This guide to The Great Laxey Wheel relates the development of mining in Laxey which prompted the building of this, the largest working waterwheel in Europe, from the 18th through to the 20th century when the mine closed. It describes the various mining processes with technical detail, together with the social history relating to the miners and how many Manx miners went to South Africa to work. There is also a map of the mines trail around the remains of the mine buildings.
