Phynnodderee was formed out of a casual association of musicians who used to gather in the Albert pub in Port St Mary in the South of the Isle of Man every Friday to play traditional music. Having agreed to play at a small festival in Feakle, West Clare, back in 1992, they needed a suitable name. So Phynnodderee was born, playing a healthy mixture of traditional music from a wide variety of cultures, though naturally biased towards the Manx.
The band has always specialised in an intimate acoustic presentation of folk music. The band hosts its own weekly session in St Johns in the centre of the Island.
For anyone not familiar with the word, the Phynnodderee is a large hairy creature of Manx legend; half-man, half goat.
